Senior Research Scientist in HPC and AI

Requisition Id 4246

Overview

The National Center for Computational Sciences Division (NCCS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) operates the world s fastest high performance computing system, largest parallel file system, and will deploy an Exascale system in 2021. New discovery science and enhanced instruments are driving the science community towards enabling physics-informed artificial intelligence (AI) as well as AI-informed hypotheses for physics models. These systems generate enormous volumes of data during scientific campaigns which, when properly analyzed, can offer new insights for the scientific objectives as well as the facility s operations.

The Analytics and AI methods at Scale (AAIMS) group within the NCCS is seeking driven senior and distinguished research scientists in the areas of intersection of High-Performance Computing (HPC) and AI, including data workflows processing, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) at scale. Specific areas of research interest include:

  • Domain-science-informed data science and AI including physical sciences broadly, observational science, applied methods in engineering (manufacturing and related areas), carbon cycle and energy production and delivery, computational genomics, and healthcare informatics.
  • Data analytics pipelines from the Edge to Exascale.
  • Computational performance of AI/ML algorithms, including the ability to use modern computing hardware and software frameworks efficiently.
  • Operational data analytics to enable data-driven intelligence and facility innovation.
  • Visualization of large-scale HPC/AI discovery campaigns.
